We're losing that war
so don't make me
give up my life
for nothing.
If I gotta die,
my sacrifice should
mean something.
I'm hero material, baby.
Medals and a flag
are tokens of what I gave
for the freedom
you think you're owed.
Dig that lone bugleman
blowing my victory tune
I don't wanna be
a dead conscriptee.
Ever.
We losing brother.
You makin me a failure
in the eyes of the world.
I'll be around to catch
streamers of praise when we win.
but we ain't so let me go.

I liked the diction in this one. You could have gone even further with the dialect if you wanted. There's a Hendrix song I feel like you're riffing on. Out of sight, dude!

I really like this one, the disillusionment of a soldier, written in a jazzy style. The vanity of glory.

I felt you straining to put as much of the agony, the disillusionment into this as you possibly could but there's never a way, I think, that words can equal the weight of spilled blood.
