I have checked you out
you dress to the left
you polish the backs of your shoes
in case you should die face down
you enjoy a Pete Smith speciality
you encompass your chin with your hand
you dislike your voice
you pace when distressed
like a captive polar bear
you think that mole is out to get you
you fell out the tree
you are losing touch with reality
I have checked you out
and cutting our tie
may be best for me.

just woke up. This is unusual Jerry for you.

This one hit a personal note for me... once I see people as they really are, why am I still unable to cut my ties with them? Darn you for making me REFLECT this early in the morning, Baldy!!

Why am I thinking here's a disillusioned guy looking at his own reflection in the mirror after some painful self-examination?

A thought-provoking piece.

Did you mean "fell out of the tree" rather than "fell out the tree"?

I didn't understand what "dress to the left" meant.

The "losing touch with reality" might justify the conclusion, but that also might be a good reason to stick around.

Yes I got the same feel as Hill from this poem. I quite liked it though it was well presented. These lines stood out for me

you polish the backs of your shoes
in case you should die face down

you pace when distressed
like a captive polar bear

Those lines were the best in the poem for me, particularly the former couplet.

All of those details seem so wonderful to me. I can only read them as painting the speaker's penchant for scrutiny! Hahah!
