Honour in Macbeth

First, What is honour? What is patriotism?

Ummm....I have no idea where patriotism came from. I just inserted that into the question for some odd reason. Please ignore that.

Yes, a good place to start is by defining for yourself what you think honour is. Once you've done that we can move on and discuss which characters in Macbeth exhibited honour and which didn't, thereby showing by example what honour is-and isn't.

So, how would you define honour?

Honour to me is respect, power, pride, reputation, good name, etc.

That's pretty much I what I would say too about honour. I might throw in a sense of duty towards doing what is right. A promise made must be kept. An oath of obedience must be followed. Allowing one's actions to be commanded or bound by only that internal force and not outward threats or rewards.


So, who are the main characters in MacBeth? Which of them cares about honour?

Macbeth and Macduff I'd say mainly.

Why do you say those two? Why not Lady Macbeth or someone else? (Btw, if my memory serves, I'd agree.) How do those two show honour, or at least show that honour is important to them?
