I'd heard a noise that evening while I kept watch on the bread leavening,
Because I'd been awake for hours, though it seemed like cosmic years;
It was late and dark, or early - all night long I'd felt a little whirly
Bright blue glinting from the corner of my eye, whistling in my ears

Not a human whistling, more a squeal, kettle-like, neckhairs bristling so I feel;
The lights begin to flutter on and off and jutter - unable to decide a mood;
What on Earth is that! I wondered, thinking the power station's blundered,
Quite abruptly my brain aches and reels and jolts - what is to be construed?

I raced to the window and opened, and what I saw, well that would depend
On whether I allow myself to believe in what many would deny;
But I can tell you that it glowed blue before flashing an unholy green hue,
Hurtling Earthward spinning, like an aquamarine volcano in the sky

I grabbed a pair of binoculars - could barely believe my oculars
When I peered deep into the starry nightsky through the dusky crepuscular haze:
An enormous sparkling spaceship - on my radar it was a major blip!
Frightened my body tightened - contractites going into a mighty muscular phase

When suddenly it came a-crashing - accompanied by a heavy smashing,
As its stopping and loud pop-popping continued behind the hill not far away;
I chased after it in my jeep in the hope I may catch a peep
Of the aliens who drove it before the newsmen entered the fray

There were few cars around fortunately, so I took every opportunity
To cut short through parks and public spaces - not to mention private walkways;
One minute it's majestically gliding, next tragically its trajectory colliding
Explosively with unknown power churning up the road like twelve Doomsdays

As it's skidding, tearing up the street - hurling up high chunks of concrete,
Cars, trucks, streetlights, signposts, letterboxes - it throws everything in its wake
Finally in the quickest of blinks - for its bulk that is - it sits and sinks
Outside the local post office, coming to rest harmless as a snowflake

A very large snowflake which could freeze the World if it chose it so should,
Peaceful at last it seems, though exactly or precisely how long the answer beg
So still and silent in its resting, and my nerves I'm sure it was testing
But next it started spitting, I say it started splitting - open like a cracking egg;

Hissing, spluttering, steaming, abruptly I discern a screaming
As Volcanic Banshees bursting, erupting from beyond the Gates of Hell;
These things that climb out before me, so full of din, and so firey,
These things so full of grim determination? I'm certain they don't bode well

But what is this determination? A desperate need to escape infernal damnation?
Or but their alien manner in evacuating a burning object?
My knees are all a-quiver, as my entire body begins to shiver
Like an unsecured clothes-washer, I vibrate off lest me they try to abduct
