I understand that your happy with laurie and amy as a match, but i think it's obvious that Laurie choose Amy by default. He clearly states that he always knew he would be part of the March family, one way or another. This was the only option left. Jo wouldn't have him, meg had mr Brooke and Beth died. Laurie and Amy definatly weren't ment to be.

Hey, everyone! I read Little Women about eight years ago and absolutely loved it. To this day, Little Women remains one of my favorite books. On this site, people kept on writing that Amy and Laurie didn't belong together and that Laurie ought to have waited for Jo. I completely disagree. Jo and Laurie were meant to only be the best of friends and nothing more. Even though Alcott didn't describe everything, she implies that Laurie and Jo did have their share of fights. Just because they were best friends doesn't mean that they would have been a good couple. Their personalities were too similar and eventually they would have been miserable. Amy and Laurie balance each other and their characters fit. Both of them influence the other for the better. Laurie loved Jo as a boy loves his first love. She was his first love and he tried to hold on to his love for her. At first, he refused to acknowledge his developing feelings for Amy. He dismissed them and viewed them as disloyalty. But his feelings were there. He fell in love with her- she wasn't just a second choice. Look back on the chapter after Laurie and Amy are married, when Amy asks him about Jo. Laurie ended up thinking of Jo as a sister.
