wrapped thinly in
translucent skin
and stored in cellar-damp,
pale onion poem
sprouts shoots into darkness.

I love the enigmatic authority of this!

I like the bananas better but anything put in the dark and the damp might still thrive...people, mushrooms and onions. nice and pickled EA.

Am I allowed to say this one's multi-layered?

Whether I am or not, that's shallot.

I have a mate who talks and talks and it sounds incredibly fascinating - except after he leaves and I begin to unravel the layers of his nonsense it never equates - the effect is not of a whole onion but rather that of a hollow onion - help me put him back together!

@Mystr: those types of people can be dangerous! Charismatic charlatans!

I always love pieces that are brief but strongly suggestive. That last line takes us from the everyday to something that's quite mysterious and magical.

The world is just a great big onion. cellar-damp , a pale onion poem, complete madness, whats not to love?

First off, I love the subject matter. The cliché onion shouts out that there are layers of meaning here. But the elegant simplicity negates any notion of the possibility of cliché.
It is amazing how even in darkness the skin lets the light in. There seems to be some tone of hope, at least I thought so.
