Laying the Foundation

I hand this to you,
Oh world!
a silver platter,
for I am an empty vessel.
This is what I served you with;
fruit, cherries, and bananas.
Now the vine is dry,
And the lip is open to the elements
to accept a drop of water.
The sun is hot
and I am dripping.
Now, I resign my service,
because, simply stated:
this body cannot
bare the burdens
of this life
much longer.
Will anyone
accept my tray?

Metaphorically beautiful, and so sad, and so very matter of fact. Having recently lost a parent, this one resonates for me.

Like a psalm. Lovely, in a haunting, despairing way...

One of those days, I was feeling in a bad way. I reread it and thought it is an Ok poem. When I originally wrote I didn't think much of it.

The way you juxtapose symbols and subjects is excellent. I really enjoyed the way it was presented as an offering.
