The Pulschnip

In multifarious, mystic ways
the Pulschnip spends her darkling days;
A-loitering here, a-prowlering there,
at no small distance from her lair,
Her purposes to profit.

The Pulschnip is a cunning creature,
who hides each grim, nefarious feature
Behind a smile so wondrous guiled
as would inveigle some sweet child
Her appetite to surfeit.

And if upon a cloudless night
the moon is gleaming pearlsome bright,
She値l scud about till break of day
to schnip a dozen souls away,
And will accept no forfeit.

Behold the Pulschnip if you dare,
at midnight dark or noonday fair;
She値l fix you with her winsome gaze,
then bind you with her magic ways,
Her purpose soon accomplit.

Ah, sad! the victims of this Beast
that filches humans for its feast.
Where is the knight or warrior bold
who値l slay the Pulschnip in her hold
And make this world more parfait?

This is intriguing - it made me think of the Hunting of the Snark combined with a bunyip and modern-day Grendel

I especially like the way you refrained from going into descriptive detail of its appearance, only its habits, giving it an aura of 'monster of the id'

Also like the fifth line rhymes - uncommon words used to good effect - it would make a good illustrated children's book too

I love the classical, song/bard-like quality of the piece. It reminds me of the jaunty, spirited, rustic mythological pieces of Robert Burns. I also like the idiosyncrasy of the language, which is unique without being pretentious. It gives it a nice spice without being overpowering.

Hello, MystyrMystyry
and
Hello, Morpheus

Thank you both for your encouraging (and confirmatory) comments.

In both cases they supported what I was trying to achieve in this piece.

Thank you both, again.
