Greetings, fellow voyagers!

This is the last sentence of a fictional work:

After a while I left the room, hung the ‘do not disturb’ sign on his door handle, and went to prepare for my departure.

Does anyone recognise it?

Does anyone have any idea who might have written it?

Who does it sound like?

Regards,

Brahma.

I assume you've already googled this. So, pray tell, how did you come across the last sentence in a book you don't have? There must be some story behind this...I mean, it is not exactly the most memorable sentence ever written (ooh! There's a thread!), so why are you obsessing over it? I wonder how many other people have sentences in their heads from unremembered books...hmmm...

"After a while I left the room, hung the ‘do not disturb’ sign on his door handle, and went to prepare for my departure."

Sounds like a post 1990's narrative taking place anywhere in the mid 20th century somewhere in Canada, probably Ontario. The narrator is in his early 30's, a graduate student in socio-archeo-religious studies errather, and is vastly disappointed in a man named Jim. The narrator's name is David, and he is going to the U.S. to live a humourless and successful life in acadamia; Maine most likely.

This is what I have been able to piece together from your clues. Really hope I've been able to help you out. Good luck!
