Red heat, and rocket smoke traced reflective lines through the graying skies. The happy crowds waved goodbye as proud mothers tearfully prayed for their sons and daughters. Men paced back and forth behind green and black computer screens, sweaty hands traced predicted paths on paper clip boards. The rockets roar grew faint as the ship flew spaceward, news-men in brown suits monologged the the epic ascent, as country folk listened on rusty wireless sets. In distant fields a herd of cattle lowed when they heard the jet fuel burn, and flock of geese burst from a dyeing cornfield, leaving feathers fluttering slowly to the ground.
