Let's travel some place different...leaving the black dog, work and
the mundane world behind us. Let's travel to a small cottage deep in
the mountains of Tennessee. Our Mountain Cottage would be nested on
the peaceful side of the Smokies with a calming view of Mother Nature.
We would sit on the covered porch, you in the grand-dad rocker and me
on your lap feeding you berries that we had picked fresh just that
morning as we wandered along the trail. You would read to me from
your writings, I would scratch your back, you would brush my golden
hair. Later under the afternoon sun we would jump from a rope swing and splash into the cool, clear waters of the cove. I tried to dunk you and you laughed, you grabbed me, lifted me up and tossed me into the crisp pool. I
lost my bathing suit bottom ~ you offered to go find it ~ Bad Boy! We
took in the mixture of forest, meadows and the outdoor museum left by
earlier settlers. There was so much history for us to take in...a
Pioneer hay rake and plow and the yokes for the oxen that pulled them.
You kept taking out your notebook and jotting down things to explore
more of once we got back to the cottage. I kept taking pictures so we
would never forget. We dined on food we cooked over an open fire.
The meal was simple with blacken venison, fresh fruit and grilled
potato slices. You surprised me with a bottle of champagne and under
a star studded sky you held me and we danced to the music created by our
souls.
Snuggled under the douvel we discussed tomorrow's activities and
decided we would try our hand at tubing The Little River and then
perhaps a late afternoon hay ride. We were at peace with each other
and our lives. We smiled and laughed, touched and teased each other.
Ahhhhh My Baby....life it good. Smile for me, sing for me, forever
hold me close.
