A New Pet

This is one of my earlier poems:

A new pet
A kitten comes into the family
A boy, Jamie, is pleased and proud to hold his new friend, Zoe
A mother, me, snaps the picture of her loved ones

A new pet
Zoe struggles to be let down
Jamie rushes after Zoe once she’s on the floor
I watch the two to make sure they’re safe

A new pet
Zoe gets out the front door
Jamie rushes to save Zoe
I rush to save them both

The new pet
Narrowly avoids getting hit by a car
I put Zoe back in Jamie’s arms
Jamie promises to keep the front door shut from now on
