La Beau Sir Sans Merci

You are the Shadow Man
the faceless reflection
in the mirror
watching from behind
the walls, unseen, invisible
but a ghost waiting in the wings.

You pass transparent
through the drifting crowd,
caught stolen glances,
a quickened heart beat
and just like that
you are gone.

More than a memory
less than tangible,
but your eyes are
without remorse
cold god eyes.

Your humanity is
unassured, a living
specter, a La Beau Sir Sans Merci,
because your smile
is razor wire
and slices through me
before ever it's seen.

You are the past
but your void fills the present
and as a mirage, the fog, a
distant plain you taunt
and haunt the future,
always there lingering in view
but not quite reachable
never tractable.

And I live beneath
your shadow
suspended between your
distant vision and what is
left behind in the dust
and blood you draw from me.

A very vampiric poem with a touch of serenity.

I thought

You are the past
but your void fills the present

was a fantastic couplet. It has a very noir sensibility as well. I imagined this poem like a black and white film. It reminds me of early film decadence in some respects.

A dream/demon lover?

You certainly caught the feeling of a dream - one of those dark haunting semi-nightmares that move in analytical slow motion

I was fore-reminded of rainy city streets and night-time chilhood neighborhood walkabouts (not sure why)

But in the eerie imagery and sumptous word flow - you've done it again Dark One
