View Full Version : Treat Literature as Literature... with respect!

This is new for me to post anything, but here goes...

Assuming that most of you "hopefuls" out there are writing with the hope of someday, somehow getting published, I urge you all to take some refresher courses in English Lit. 101... if for nothing more than to learn what you obviously did NOT learn in your first round of English Lit. 101.

Precisely? If you ever have a hope of being published - please, PLEASE learn these things, if nothing else, hopefully BEFORE you submit any examples of your work with your name attached: learn how to spell, learn how to punctuate, and learn how to construct proper sentences and paragraphs. I can't tell you how much of the stuff on this and other sites I visited today is riddled with horrendous abuses of the above vital elements of the written English language.

Closing: Editors will NOT take any writer seriously who cannot present a short story which is nearly perfect. I refer particularly to a post about "Mousy Brown"... a woman with multiple personalities who kills her abusive husband, but there are many other examples. This story in particular has an interesting and unexpected twist to it that is completely lost to the reader in the maze of poor writing habits.

Most of the young writer we encounter today really don't know... what they "don't know" about writing. Do yourselves a favor and find out.
