I began as an unassuming grain of sand
now layered in years
encased in this smoothly hardened husk
look closely at my iridescent shell
and find your face, reflected.

This reminds me of the description of how Michelangelo produced some of his greatest sculptures: he started with a block of marble and chipped away all the extraneous pieces.

A cryptic affirmation of enduring love.

A cryptic affirmation of enduring love.

I love it.
But I would not find enduring love by staring into my own reflection... I know that for sure.

This is very nice ea and takes me back to the first poem you posted ('Marbles')...
My feelings about this one are very similar - it's a nice piece, but I do think a bit of rhyme or some form would benefit the poem even more... (mutters to himself about the congruence of form and content in the work of Don Paterson and Paul Muldoon...) :)
And that's a nice reading hill; perhaps a daughter's love for her mother?
