Begin by ironing your fabric.
[Under intense pressure]
Remove the selvedge.
[I will eliminate what's unnecessary]
Cut your fabric into three strips, 18 x 4 inches.
[I will separate myself from need]
Fold each of the strips in half, right sides together, and sew a half inch seam.
[and fold inward]
Turn the three bands right side out.
[so only my right side shows.]
Turn the bands so that the seam is in the center, and iron flat.
[I am uncentered]
Cut one band at 13 inches, and one at 12. Leave one whole.
[I am not whole]
Cut a piece of elastic to 6 inches in length.
[but I will stretch]
Tuck the elastic inside the 13 inch band.
[and adjust]
Sew the elastic in place using a zig-zag stitch.
[zig-zagging wherever you tell me to go]
Tuck into the end of the 18 inch band. Line up the seams.
[I will walk your line]
Turn down the edges of the band a half inch, then sew in place.
[and turn down every opportunity]
Insert your finger into the end of the short band and grasp the elastic. Pull it out, and sew it in place with a zig-zag stitch.
[in hopes of grasping martyrdom.]
Insert this into the other end of the long band, again matching up the seams and folding down the edges. Sew in place.
[Nothing matches up]
Now to make the bow:
[but I continue to bow]
Take the longest band left and fold the two ends to meet in the middle, overlapping slightly.
[believing my heart and mind will someday meet in the middle.]
Sew in place using a zig-zag stitch. Repeat these steps for the next largest band.
[Again, I try]
Add the bow piece to the headband, a little off center. Sew in place.
[but I'm imbalanced]
Finally, wrap the last band around the center of the bow, covering the stitches. Sew in place.
[and I fear it shows.]
