I don't know what
extreme relativism
means
but he has labelled me
'one of them'
even if I cannot understand.
Trust him, he insists.
He is certain he knows
what he is talking about.
All decisions are simple
Only people complicate them.
I ask if it is ok
to mind my own business
and keep my integrity
in view and use it as I see fit?
Only on the condition
that I love him selflessly,
agree with him blindly.
Why?
Because, he replies
he hates hypocrisy.
Oh so do I
but aren't we all guilty?
He humbly admits
he has a particular clarity
which enables him
to make sound judgments.
I on the other hand
have led a complex existence
which means I am a poor decision maker.
What a shame, I say.
As I navigate the splendour
of diverse self-knowledge,
the network of relationships
where facts are embedded
and contextualized,
he tells me intellectualism
is the anchor of the world.
Extreme relativism is bosh
and the escape of those
who cannot face real,
tangible evidence of truth -
he knows this all too well.
If only the world would listen
and become enlightened like him.
Can you explain, I ask.
He shakes his head, exasperated
and tells me
If I research the pages of
his accumulated knowledge,
instead of writing poetry
creating a false existence,
then I might,
just might,
understand.
