Sundays are for study
holed up, hot, in my attic room
in a scratchy lace dress
the ribbon pulled in a constricting bow

Ecclesiastes was a b****
and who in the hell invented tights?
I flip the thin page with an impatient sigh
The paper crinkles in protest,
laying bare The Song of Solomon

The song of songs, which is Solomon's
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth--
Oh ho! What is this?
I sit upright and read on…

The virgins love thee!
The king hath brought me into his chambers!
He shall lie all night betwixt my breasts!

I double-check the calfskin cover:
this is, indeed, my bible
with my name pressed in golden letters
But who, who is this Solomon?

I envision him with the flowing locks of Samson--
a biblical Fabio!
his loins swathed in animal skin
and it is hot up here,
hot beyond hot--

Let my beloved come into his garden,
and eat his pleasant fruits
Thighs like jewels
Naval, neck, belly, breasts!
My door swings open and there stands my mother
Caught! I shut the book quickly,
but I've been spotted

She bestows a knowing smile
and quietly shuts the door
leaving me to piously study

Sex and bible reading works for me misadventure. They were made for eachother as with all repellents. You must have had a twinkle in your eye as you wrote this. It is a juxtaposition that feels like it has inside knowledge and adds to your enigma in your cultural wasteland

It is well written. I've always wondered about the patriarchial porn of the bible!
