In bare feet
you skim across
the burning schoolyard
to snatch tiny morsels
of that which is taboo.

You dash round mothers,
leap across the road
like Nureyev
and land, crouched
as if your act
is yet to pass
before you lightly
spring from wall to fence
in the next scene.

Your shirt billows open
to reveal the drops
of your paternal lust
in a suburban setting
that commands children
assemble each morning in
painted quadrangles.

While men of all ages
are rounded up
gagged
cuffed
led away,
you dance past,
a free spirit.
Your keys jingle
with intent.
They lull children like
an hypnotic piper.

Old men surrender,
to be locked away,
forgotten.
Trespassers of your school
are steered from
the hopes of children
that flourish and sink
in the same way
you perform;
A predator of child love

"Your keys jingle
with intent"

In the town where I grew up, such words would be considered an irrefutable sign of genius!!!!

This poem had me thinking of a famous child murder case over here, where the perp was actually employed at a school as the caretaker. The Soham Murderer, Ian Huntley is richly evoked by the menace of this poem in it's description of a predatory wolf.

Very well written, Delta.

Disturbing - but beautifully written. A touch of Grimms fairy tale almost, yet firmly rooted in our tainted society.
