View Full Version : An Anthology of Language?

Only been here a mere hour or so but i'm going to throw out a plea for advice.

Big assignment in my space, place and race module is to create an anthology with a critical introduction linking the extracts etc.

I have a relatively vague notion of the direction I want to take, along the lines of seeing language as both a communicative tool and a barrier, how it's loss and acquisition affects our notion of belonging and can define a person as an outsider.

At the moment im thinking of extracts from Othello (possibly obvious but three extracts have to be from texts already studied and this fits.) Dry foot bwoy? by Louise Bennet, Brian Freil - Translations. And a few others drifting around in the back of my head.

My question is do you guys have any suggestions of other places to have a look be they novel, short story or poetry also and this may be asking some secondary critical thinking that would fit (at the moment im reading Saussaure, that is probably spelt entirley wrong, but anything else would be brilliant.)

Might be asking alot but any help to help me achieve take off would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

Edit :

Having been browsing the forums i came across this post http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showthread.php?t=50969 and felt the need to express that i was not aware there was this (justified) feeling amongst forum users so I wanted to clarify im not asking for specific help with the actual question just of the top of your head suggestions for things that may be worth a read. I hope this doesn't read like a do my work for me post as I really wouldn't want that as one of my first posts and if it does please tell me and I will refrain from it in the future. Thanks
