You weren't of the best build quality
But that was one of your charms
A ten buck camping chair for when
I returned from the hills and sat at
Nights poking embers with a stick
Of course you never got used for that
Your purpose became led by fate
But I got some good use out of you
And you certainly had a good innings
Taking the place of the recliner almost
Immediately even after the first sign of
Wear on the armrests - but that was
Nothing compared to when your aluminium
Frame buckled beneath my arse that day
But in the shed I gladly hammered you
Back into shape and you were good for
Another year - and then there was the time
Your leg pinion completely snapped and I
Discovered that an inserted broken bike axle
Fitted perfectly, and what an improvement
Low-slung you'd become at half the height
And your black canvas gave you an air of
The Batmobile - and just so comfy! The days
At the beach, and just sitting around the yard
In Summer Spring and Autumn ah good times
But it was at night you shone hardly noticed
Quietly appreciated always reliable and ever
Inviting and welcoming - how much philosophy
Was dreamt up in your non-constricting
Non-confining ness, how many books read
And notebooks did I go through, I wonder
How many hours in total had I sat in you?
But then that day I'll never forget - at first
I thought you were playing a joke sending
Me sprawling on the floor for you showed no
Imminent signs of collapse beyond the afore
Mentioned - in fact your esteemed self seemed
Destined for the rest of eternity - how was I to
Know that there would be a logical limit to the
Repairs without a complete rebuild - who considers
Such things amidst happiness and warmth - me least
Of all - and now you're gone leaving only memories
As your replacement is no match to compare
