I'll get by in life
but only if I work hard
chirped the squirrel
as he cracked some nuts
along the way.

Slow down rasped the tortoise
success will be yours
if you apply less haste
It is just a matter of time.
Leave my nuts alone!

You won't get mine
mumbled the hedgehog
and remember this:
some situations
are prickly
You must put thought
into your choices

Don't tell me about sticky
situations baa'ed the mountain goat
perched precariously on a high cliff.
Perserverance and patience
is how you overcome challenges.

The unpopular rat spat
I think it stinks
to be on the one
side of the world
where I am considered filth
Life is therefore, unfair.

I agree snuffled the Mole
Better to remain in the dark
blind to everything
so that you can never
know the pain of others
when they think of you.

You are all wrong roared the lion
I am the king because I have fought
through life.
I overcome great battles
I am bigger than even I can imagine!

I disagree, brayed the donkey
Nothing like that ever works for me
I've kicked up many a fuss and lost.
Go on! try me!
I bet you I don't succeed.

The elephant heard all this
then bowed to them.
I for one will never forget
your words of wisdom
They make me lucky and prosperous

He tiptoed out of the room.

Wise elephant - although I think he understood this somewhat better than I did.

Tee hee! Brings to mind the contrasting proverbs and adages that are pounded into our heads: "absence makes the heart grow fonder" & "out of sight, out of mind." They can't all be true, can they?

Witty :)

This is really clever. As a teenager, I can really relate to all of the "undeniable" wisdom that gets thrown at you throughout the years. It can be hard to sort through all of those adages to find the ones for you, and this does a great job of depicting that tangled web.

Sweet.

 Delta you have done a great job, selecting and presenting all the "gems of wisdom". Now all one has to do is to select the one that suits best. Any help out there?

Take your pick. I pondered what outlook animals have in their existence and these are a few. Should we compare ourselves to just one or are we all of them at various times throughout our lives?

An enjoyable poem, Delta, which is open to the reader's interpretation, although it's hard to avoid the anthropomorphic one (sorry, Hawk, that word again!). And it gives a different take on 'the elephant in the room'.

enough already said Noah, just get in the f ucking Ark. Is it me or does the elephant always get the good press?
I jest. Its a poetic deltaesque menagerie by a successful down under playwright of times to come. You and others keep me coming back no matter how they protest :D

The most common cause of death for mountain goats is falling off their mountains - sad but true. This was good fun Delta.

Live and be well - H

They fall out of trees too!
