Thanks, everybody! :D Do you know I actually forgot today was my birthday!:lol:

Sarah--thanks for the "V" pic!

Papayahead--I love those cakes! AT-ATs are my favorite Star Wars vehicle! I would never be able to eat them, though! Of course, I guess if you didn't...they would get moldly like Miss Havisham's wedding cake. :ack2:

hoope--I liked the quote!

Anyway, I appreciate the birthday wishes! :D

It's incredible what one has to do on occasion of a friend's birthday. I had to peel a few visitors off in order to carve a birthday card for Jess :p I wish I had had billl's pistol to make it easier. Instead I had to use my knife for the whole process. Yuck, I hope you'll appreciate my effort! :lol:

Thanks, Gilliatt for the picture of the weird flower! What is it?

Billl--thanks for the gun! Could come in handy! I never had a person trust me enough to give me a gun before.:smilielol5:

Maxi--thanks for the card and the cake! Your efforts--particularly since you had posted on Facebook too--are really appreciated!

It is unusual isn't it?. It is known as a "common teasel".

Welcome [img]It's very pretty. I had never seen it before :)Pretty, but a bit of a menace: If you get too close they stick to your clothes, and then you'll have a job on your hands, getting them off.

Thanks everyone for the birthday wishes, belated and otherwise!:D

@Paulclem--:smilielol5:

@Claes--thanks for the info! It is a shame that pretty things are often a pain in the arse!:sosp: Quite some time ago, my mom got some money from the State so she could buy new plants to replace the sour orange tree they had cut down. There was a problem with some type of canker that citrus trees were getting, and so the State just started eradicating every citrus tree in the area. Many homeowners were upset, but we were never very fond of the sour orange tree--it is more a Spanish delicacy.

Anyway, so mom bought roses and a bouganvilla among other things. Very pretty, but of course they have thorns. And the bouganvilla--oh, my god, what a nightmare to trim! Everytime I trim it, I come out looking like I got in a fight with a thousand cats!

There was a Patricia Cornwell - Kay Scarpetta book involving the cutting down of orange trees which I read last year. The orange tree cull was central to the plot. I forget which book it was though. Sorry - rambling again.:D

Wow, I hope I'll remember to keep a certain distance if I ever get close to them. Thanks for that info, Claes. Interestingly interesting :nod:

Thanks, Comedian.

What makes bouganvilla a nightmare, Claes, is that the branches grow close together--so you have to get in there to cut them. I swear, the more you trim it, the closer the branches get together. I almost think it is a defense mechanism.
