Just completed reading the new translation of Gurgen Mahari's Burning Orchards - a magnificent novel about the Armenian uprising of 1915 in Van, Anatolia (modern Turkey). Mahari is hardly known in the English speaking world, though he's widely read in Europe. I would say he's almost on par with the Russian greats. Haven't seen the book in a London bookshop yet though it's available on Amazon (where it says you can also get an eBook version!) Can't believe it's taken so long to publish him in English!
