Last night, insomnia led me
to a closed down shopping mall
where I wandered lonely
as a blouse
and bumped, right in,
to PrinceMyshkin.
Lamenting nicotine,
he sucked on a ball point
and had an inky smile
above a bluey beard.
He was sat on a beach ball
from one of his earlier works.
We shook hands
like we knew each other,
then hugged like we were brothers.
He blew on a shop window
and drew an ancient sign
in the condensation.
'That. my dear Jerry,
is poetry' he piped
and I wondered what the f uck
he was on.
'Shall I end this poem here Prince'?
I enquired,
'Keep going my son'
was his considered reply.
His glasses slid down his nose
and I warmed some more to the man.
We walked together
between cigatrette butts
and polystyrene cups.
We rolled up trouser legs
and danced in a coffee puddle
to a dirge we had long forgot.
How we laughed
at the naked mannequins
and how we vandalised
the snack machine.
We were sharing an illicit Kitkat
when Prince turned to me.
'Jerry, look around,
you and I aren't here at all,
this is just a baldy poem,
but imagined or not,
I feel
there is
still,
something missing'.

I love how you've developed this motif: a ball point pen, an inky smile, a bluey beard... this is a penned character, drawn from imagination.

My other favorite line: and how we vandalised / the snack machine
A bit of humor and mischief... I'd love to dance a dirge with these two imps!

On behalf of Prince and myself you are formally invited. We love a good dirge :) Well I do, I should let Prince speak for himself ...

What a wonderful poem and the end is really good. Prince has almost reached God like proportion here!

I did have a ball writing this and Prince is a God, but can't dance a dirge to save his arse.

Hilarious! I can just see you guys dancing among the butts and cups, with the naked mannequins and kitkats.

LOL. What is it with teenagers in the mall?! C'mon, there are no naked mannequins, stores have to sell their clothes. So which one of you unrobed the poor things? (do I really want to know?)

ok, I'm definitely missing something...where is Missing part II?

Mythic - a dollop of irreverent humour laden with mucho respect and affection. A really enjoyable read.

Hey! I'm here. I'm flattered. Been having trouble writing anything I care a damn about, though I do have this (presumably opening) line:

Now that Egypt has fallen to the Egyptians

but don't know what the heck to do with it... Your reference to the naked mannequins positively freaked me out because in my teens I had a summer job in my father's factory. On a floor above his factory was one that made or provided female mannequins. I don't know how I stumbled into that area, but I found it hard to leave!

that's a killer newspaper headline Prince, I'm sure it would work just as well in a poem but *ahem* forum rules, no politics. OK I'm totally inspired:

Now that Egypt has gone back to the cats

Are you playing with my head Jerry? :bigear:

Hey Prince, I am glad I stumbled upon a bit of your past in there :) And that is a great opening line but as Haunted says, good luck getting it dressed up as non political ;)
Thanks Hill, mythic is a very well chosen response.
Haunted. Playing with your head? Moi?

thanks all
Jerry
