"Crimson Creed: Doctrine of Darkness" is my so-far favorite novel. It is by Mary & Daniel E. Mora. It is a mixture placement (mystery, period-piece, thriller, suspence, horror). It is about a former priest with an evil past during the Roman empire. He is sent to Egypt (Aegyptus) to check out a heretic group which the church knows little about. After trials & harshnesses, he reaches the group and it was nothing like what he was told. But the group may be hiding something very dark. Will he escape the city? And what will he discover?
The authors did a great job at realism & the atmosphere of the world at the time, creepyly so. Some of the realism is shockingly (& disturbingly) good. They slowly expose the protagonist's dark past in a psychological way and likewise go into the pasts of other characters which explains alot in a great way. They also did a great job at showing life & mind at its absolute darkest, but without losing realism. The ending, climax, is totally unexpected and freaky --and the book doesn't end at that.
They have their own website (www.religiouscorruptions.com) which goes into ideas in the book --but from fiction to non.
I think this is their first book and I can't wait for them to write more --hopeful.
I personally give it a 10 out of ten in my book, so to speak.
