It is out there,
but you will never find it.
If you found it,
it would be disproved.
If you proved it,
science would explain it.
If you died for it,
it would be in vain.
If you wrote of it,
it would not make it so.
The search for it
creates poetry
and its absence
created this.

To any potential commenters. Skip the missing word :)

No, I absolutely get it. I love the careful phrasing, like a riddle. And I'm sorry, but Haunted's comment really validates your poem, does it not?

Beautifully done.

You can choose any topic and apply your poetic formula to it and be satisified with the ongoing ambiguity of it....

It's not the missing word that bothered me but the one that was misspelled. Good poem!

Sometimes the lack of a muse can create something clever. I like this.

I suppose it could apply to anything, and thinking it's a muse may very well say more about me than the OP :o

Hey guys... This is fantastic. It's a riddle, it's honest. It's very good.
Well done again Jerry.

"It is out there..." I am so missing "The X Files." And you know, every great poem begins with a question.

Also, is this what's missing from your poem/experience about/with PrinceMyshkin?
