I have been planning some of my future reading and I cannot decide between these books which one I want to read next. I plan on eventually reading them all, I already own each of these books, but which one should be the first I pick up I am on the fence about.

So I ask you to help make the choice for me.

The Wings of a Dove by Henry James: It has been a while since I have read any James, and I really enjoy his writing. I have been feeling a bit in the mood for James again.

Tropic of Cancer by Henry Miller: I am not really that familair with Miller and haven't read anything of his, but what I have heard of this book it sounds like it could be interesting and I am intrigued.

Pale Fire by Nabokov: I thought this one sounded interesting and unconventional, I am quite curious about it, and I think it may have been on my shelf the longest. But I now have some reservations after having read Lolita, which I must admit for whatever reason I failed to be as enthralled by the narration as many other people.

Ragtime by E.L. Doctrow: When I was in high school I read Billybathgate and loved it, I have not since then got around to reading any more of Doctrow's work but I would like to.

Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad: I attempted to read this once before and stopped half-way through. I found it difficult to get into and hard to follow, but after having successfully read Heart of Darkness and surprisingly enjoyed it I have decided to revisit this one and give it another chance, but I have still been reluctant to acutally bring myself to pick it up again.

I would go for Pale Fire because that's been on my "to read" list forever. I finally got around to buying it over Christmas, but haven't yet had the chance to read it. I've heard so much about the structural complexity of the novel, something which I don't get a lot of in my field, so I think it'd would be something refreshingly different.

And I hated Wings of the Dove. Bleh! But that's my general impression of Henry James...he's just simply not for me.

Ragtime is a lot of fun.
