Reality Bites

Back when I was young I had an imaginary friend
Someone no one else could see
But I can remember how happy I was
Each time that he played with me
Now I am getting old and my life has gone
From full bore to stationary
And I sometimes think that all of my friends
Have just been imaginary...

That's a very affecting poem, but I hope it doesn't have any real bearing on your reality, Pen.

all eye ever got were the imaginary(?) executive figures of the robot lord of death.
but they never leave.

nice point - and then one's imagination deteriorates!

This a very good piece of light verse, Pen. It's somewhat bittersweet but nonetheless entertaining.

I wish I could say I had no empathy for your poem.
well put.

Mirrors reflect, Qimi. Unfortunately, so does poetry at times...

Bleak but well done. If only you would cover the mirror and come back to the brown room as Jerry would say. Your Litnet friends are here, virtual but NOT imaginary.

Ditto to Haunted's comment, and to those who remarked on how deft this is.

I agree with everyone's statements.

that's quite a delicious little piece of poetry.it got this wonderful melancholy put in a lovely melody that gives it a light casuality which in hindsight gives the reader (at least me) this delightful sting in the heart. I'd like to have it with a good cup of tea at a rainy afternoon (a well balanced assam would fit).

if there should be nothing but this pain left in your life, I'm sorry for you
but even if it's only a temporary melancoly it prooves again that pain and the wish to express it (to get it out) is propably the best insperation one can get.

melancholy is really one of the most delicious flavours in all arts (my personal favourit by the way...)

Pendragon... I think you read my mind. Well done sir. I sighed when I read this one.

Nice poem, Pendragon! The phrase "full bore to stationary" was particularly amusing. I like imaginary friends, by the way.

I wonder if all friends aren't, in some way, imaginary as you've suggested.

But if that's the case, let's party!
