Where is the Earthly Delight?

Where is the earthly delight
lost among Autumn leaves,
gray the sky on bone cold
winter mornings,
damp beneath heavy rain drops
following the trail
of broken blood staind roses.

Among your winter garden
of headstones and monochrome
where the dead still cry
among the ivy vines
which make silent protest.

Rust-colored dew drops
amid the stillness
shatter dawn's placid
countenance leaving you
standing alone
beside broken marble
and glass dreams.

Walk gently through
our remains of Eden's Paradise
while the angels weep
where alone you traipse
a man abandoned with the dead
and a rose which still holds
a trace of her lips.

From the title I was expecting something along the lines of Heironymous Bosch's paintings of 'The Garden of Earthly Delights'..... but your poem is much gentler in tone and quite 'romantic' yet there's still the spectre of death lingering close by.

I enjoyed reading this for its subtle use of imagery as much as anything

You never fail to transport me to a place of possibilities. The death note is hear and yet it is shrouded in your own beautiful poetry.

Thank you both for your comments. Haha yes when I first scribed the line Bosh immediately came to mind, but it does take on a rather different note. It is a mash of 2 (or maybe 3) differnet inspsirations all emerging together.

I like mash-ups. Sometimes you come up with something richer and more vibrant than when you try to make it pure.

Lovely and haunting, Dark Muse.
