We are the sisters of the night
and prowling ghetto streets,
we prey upon unwary fools
whose sins we suss, toot-sweet.

We dress in black, though wimples flash
when caught in streetlight’s glare,
so we prefer the shadows cast
where victims dare not stare.

We harbour spite and malice
and our might is in our rite,
so don’t you dream of crossing us
or cruel will be your plight.

We punish those who step awry,
the sin of wealth we shrive,
by claiming every thing they’ve got,
we even takes their lives.

Our arguments are made of steel,
with cutting edges sharp,
the flick-knives in our crucifixes
sparkle after dark.

The wicked who resist us - tough,
for them the end is hard;
highly skilled as agony aunts
The Sisterhood De Sade.

Our principle persuasion though
is spoken by our guns,
9 millimetre hymns of praise
that chorus when they runs.

We knows we shouldn’t shoot ‘em all,
the sinful prone to rabbit,
it isn’t very sporting
but we just can’t break the habit.

Oh "just can't break the habit" is a naughty pun but this is fun all the way through.

Ouch - the convent of The Sisterhood de Sade probably still exists in some Irish one-horse town.

Been listening to some vintage Beatles over the holidays have we? (Happiness is a Warm Gun?).

This is hilarious, Hawk. Makes me think you've seen Ben Afleck's movie The Town about bank robbers who dress like nuns.

I think it scans near perfect, but for L1 S5.

I suggest: Our arguements are made of steel

You have cheeky wit here and I rather liked just can't break the habit too.

ff, thanks for reading and for the suggestion which I have adopted. I don't think I've seen, The Town, but I did watch Nuns on the Run - lol. My Nuns probably arrived by parachute...

Delta, many thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed it. :D

What an imagination! gosh, I start to be afraid... :) and hope they endow some with a little protection?

He he he!

(and correct the typo, in L1 last S, where it should be "we know" and not "we knows", plus, shouldn't it be "they run", too? or am I missing something?)

Are you the Sisterhood's hawk??? oh boy.

Sweet Bar, obviously you have not read the book of the film, 'Jabberwocky' :D The protection racket of the earthy Sisters of De Sade is highly profitable, at least to them - lol.

As for the 'typos' - Sorry, but I'm afraid you are :D The misuse of English is a deliberate ploy to indicate the unsavory disposition of the sisters. Rest assured, I have never been anyone's sister - lol.

Woe is me, I take all back! my ignorance shines! but perhaps you could write, be it only from time to time, on themes accessible to my uneducated mind... couldn't you.

I'm reassured your "typos" are deliberate, though. :)

yours, very ashamed, Bar

You have no cause for shame, gentle muse. Be of good cheer, your education is not lacking, merely refined - lol.

All hail Hawk, the Master Balladeer!

I don't know which was worse - your rhyming 'streets' with 'toot-sweet' (!) or Prince's reply. Very funny either way.

I may be insane but I luved the last stanza

We knows we shouldn’t shoot ‘em all,
the sinful prone to rabbit,
it isn’t very sporting
but we just can’t break the habit.

Hawk, you joke (I think ~ I don't know you that well yet!)...but this poem made me think of what is happening in the world...tell me....what made you write it? If I may be soooooo bold to ask?

You are writing this and in Gaza this is going on.

With faces covered and guns loaded, Palestinian militants are training among the sand dunes of Gaza.

Shouts of "Allahu Akbar" -- God is great -- are followed by intense target practice. These militants are preparing to fight their sworn enemy, the state of Israel. But there is a difference -- they are women.

Just found it interesting...you write about nuns with guns and the women of Israel are going into battle with their faces covered but automatic rifles in their arms.

Hope I am not out of line!

Well, b/v, the balladeer of balderdash acknowledges your acknowledgement of his art and status! Thankee, your grace :D

"The Assyrian came down like the wolf on the fold,
And his cohorts were gleaming in purple and gold;
And the sheen of their spears was like stars on the sea,
When the blue wave rolls nightly on deep Galilee."

Well Kitty, as you can see, something about your little newsflash has sparked a few neurons, those in charge of Byron quotes. I’m sorry to have to report that what the noble Myshkyn once referred to as, “The problems of the Muddle East,” were in no way responsible for the inspiration of this poem.

I was walking from the bank to the railway station when the idea of the Sisters of De Sade glimmered dimly within my cranium. Subsequently on my walk, various other neurons sparked, making connections to Terry Pratchett’s, Spiteful sisters of seven handed Sek and the book of the film Jabberwocky. This has a chapter which describes bands of belligerent nuns, with flick-knives in their crucifixes, stalking nuns from a different order, through the streets.

As I continued home the bones of this poem took shape and when I eventually arrived there I worked on it and the result is posted above.
The Sisters of De Sade conduct their ministry upon the darkened streets of inner city ghettos and are free from any constraints or scruples about whom they should accost. They merely pray upon the weak and unwary, depending on whether the potential victim’s appearance indicates sufficient wealth to make it worth their while.
