I remember a particular story that I read at least 20 years ago and am trying to find it again.

A man built a listening device in his garage, and was horrified to start hearing screams, as if people were being tortured or slaughtered. Turns out the device was picking up the screams of the plants: the neighbor was cutting her roses.

I'm hoping the diversity of the forum contributors can help me find this story.
Thanks!

I remember hearing about it or something (I don't think I read it, maybe some other kid told me--or maybe I DID read it. I notice there is a youtube video of it...)

Anyhow, I did some research and came up with this:

Omigosh, billl, you are awesome! This is it, The Sound Machine by Roald Dahl. I never would have gone that direction, because Dahl is not one of my favorites. Thank you so much; I've been thinking of this for months.

Wow, then I'm glad I was able to come up with it (it was a fun little mission).
You're welcome!
