This is not as pointless as it might appear. In fact a well-designed book cover may give a good idea of the contents. I have too many books to go through but two that came to mind are:

... I'm weird. I'm attracted to books with no picture on the cover, just an intriguing font. Obscure simplicity makes me curious... also gives me the impression that it takes itself seriously.

Lately I've been diving into the classics I've never yet read and while browsing the bookstore the other day I saw (and picked up, since it is among them) this very cool recent edition of Moby-Dick. Here is the front cover and below it the whole thing expanded (front, back, and flaps):
