Not even cows out there
to chew the expanse up-
Miles ago, the last familiar structure
rolled by like a life boat or
a voice begging to stop

Lay down heaven
to cover the expanse up;
the fields are rushing into the chest
and making it hard to breathe.
There is no order out here, there are no souls,
Highway spilt liquid, a blackened flow.

The first town we had passed
sold bibles- first one was free,
The second town was flush Freshmen
stealing lines from Neechee.
The third stop was a little ways further,
everyone thought it was stupid to go there,
where the insane writhed in the dirt
biting themselves.

And further,
dared go further
was disconcerting emptiness,
insidious and subtle;
it grew slow and
beneath the surface.

I feel like I've been taking beyond the average journey across the country. Reminds me of the Nullabor trek

A combination of Burroughs and Kerouac set to the insistent throb of wheels on hard-top.
