Know of Life

This morning looked so bright
So pale, so full of promise
And knowing I won't see this day through to night
I wished I hadn't done it
I thought of the people waking up
The life on the streets just in that breath
And it all got to much
That I'd lose it all in death

I thought of the green in the background of my life's scenes
The colours that fused every day that I failed to see
And my head fogged and sallowed with what everything means
In what I'd been through then, I saw what it could be

At a time mid-afternoon today they're coming to where I lie
To take me from this cell out in the sun somewhere quick to die
In the passing, by this light, I'm getting ready, with the Grace of God
Resolve in the touch of my own palms, and the reassurance of my nod
I swear to me; my eyes won't falter, my body will feel - I'll be truly sensitized
In the moments before my execution - I'll be ever present, and know of life
