I imagine his body
sprawled across
the snowy village green
like a b-grade attraction.
Some passing mongerels
sniff the stiff
mummified in ice
after a pint too many
at the Talbot Inn.
Ginger hair is frosted
in icicle wisps.
Teeth drawn back
from thin blue lips
cooled quickly by the
cruel kiss of death.
Liver spots are licked
like chocolate buttons
before he is kicked
by a would-be striker.
Sprinkled with wrinkles
peppered with freckles
of three score boyhoods
and ten,
he melts into the ground
as steam rises from
a drunken pack piss.
He soon crackles solid.
Weary limbs gnarl and entwine
a weather beaten tree.
He lays there alone
thickly knotted like
a homemade cable cardigan

Suitably seasonal and jolly this one, Delta :D The narrator is obviously not a Samatiran, at least, not a good one - lol.

There is something so dispirited in this objective, unsparing description of this, as the saying goes, dead drunk! The occasional rhymes, especially the seemingly hit or miss ones, were very effective.

I couldn't google the Latin as a phrase. Would you mind translating it after a few others have posted their responses?
