Let baby down gently;
the wind changed the season,
Blew away springtime and
left there a man.

Let her down gently,
she admired you so.
If you get what you want
better want what you know.

Don't drop the cradle.
Don't break her back.
Pretended in purple,
left shattered in black.

And if you're real sorry
she'll still never know.
Goddamn I'm sorry
that I had to go.

Another glimpse of a man wrestling with commitment and running away presumably.

I'm unsure about

If you get what you want
better want what you know.

It suggests a similar notion to 'beware what you wish for' but I'm also conscious that the rhyming scheme determined the wording as much as anything else.

Interesting nonetheless.

A nice poem.
I liked "Pretended in purple, left shattered in black."

I like the confusion of
If you get what you want
better want what you know.

sounds like spouted wisdom with no realisation of its deeper meaning - that and it reminded me of Mick Jagger!
