Anyone else here who reads this somewhat obscure swiss german-speaking early 20th century author?
I like a lot of his work, particularly the novels The Apprentice and Institute Benjamenta, and a number of shorter stories.
He is mentioned a few times by Kafka in his diaries, and i think this is how i came to discover him :)
His narrative is rich and detailed. He suffered from schizophrenia and ended up in a mental asylum for the second half of his quite long life. When asked why he didnt write anything there he replied "i am not here to write, but to be mad" ;)
