Stories to learn how to more about people/life/social skills

I've often wondered how often people learn things about life they wouldnt have, except for reading from a good book. Things that wouldnt of been pointed out or just things in general that made them understand people better.

I'd like to read some books like this, any suggestions are welcome :)
