To A Cat
Please don’t give up
I need you here with me,
We have so much to talk about you and I.
I want you to get healthy as can be.
I know we are both older,
I can see it in your eyes.
So white as snow,
I despise all the color that has gone.
I remember when I used to go to sleep,
You would come to creep.
Laying your body around my head,
You would watch over me as I went to bed.
But now our time has come,
To say good-bye to the ones we love.
We will see each other one day,
In the sky up above.
Dedicated to my cat Prissy. Layed to rest January 6, 2008.

This is a heart-wrenching poem, Red_Rose, and the importance of what the cat meant to you is clear by the repetition of 'I' throughout the poem. (But check the typo: 'I despite', line 8.)
There's a similar poem written by Robin Robertson called 'Cat, Failing', that ends:
There's a new look
in those eyes
that refuse to meet mine
and it's the shame of being
found out. Just that.
And with that
loss of face
his face, I see,
has turned human.

Our furry friends become so much more than pets. Thank you for sharing.
Perhaps the "I despite" in Line 8 was meant to be "I despise"?

Red Rose, the love you have for Prissy is very evident in this poem. Thanks for sharing this. I hope you write many more poems about Prissy through your life as you continue to remember her.

I am really moved. This is true of the persons who can so deeply love animals.
