"The principal object, then, proposed in these Poems was to choose incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as was possible in a selection of language really used by men" — William Wordsworth, preface to Lyrical Ballades

i hope my friend-requests have not, like, vexed u,
cuz stalking u on Facebook's not enuf;
My BF said to totally, like, text u:
i wanna tell u 'bout my luv, and stuff.
ur sweet as Diet Sprite, and much more pretty
Than princess Zelda—gurl, i'm lovin' it!
ur heart's mor big than Grand Theft Auto's city
4 running 'round and 'splodin' stuff in it.
ur eyes are blue as th' blue on Facebook's pages,
and wider than girls' eyes in anime,
u r mor magical than Warcraft's mages;
i'll heart u, gurl, 4 an entire day!!!
My Twitter address is, uh, @darthtrevor.
So could we be, like, luvers, or whatever?

Uh, like, uh, not bad, really.

I realise some of the 'pointless' words were included to assist the meter rather than reflect real 'Bebo-talk' or whatever you want to call it, but as a whole this works quite well.

There's very little successful poetry written using txt language or other web-based short-cut vocab so you could well have yourself a winning recipe here.

Thanks for reading!

Obviously this isn't meant to be serious, earth-shattering poetry. Just fun.

The danger in writing a monstrosity like this is that some might have even the faintest thought that the poet, in this case, might be the speaker. And that would be ueber-embarrassing for me.

I'm reminded of Dr. Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady when he said:
By right she should be taken out and hung
For the cold-blooded murder of the English tongue.

Indeed, why can't the English learn how to speak?

an entertaining little satire which i quite enjoyed, but don't make a habit of it - lol
