I want to first say that if this post is in wrong thread then I'm sorry for that. I've just joined this forum and looking for help. and hoping that I'll find it here. so admin/mods don't get angry please if this is in the wrong section.
The help bit. I'll try to explain as much as I can remember so if you can help or remember what it is then please I'd like to hear from you.
About two years ago I was on archive and was looking for something, click click and I started reading a French novel. it wasn't what I was looking for but it was interesting and kept my interest throughout reading it. the novel is not in French but is in english. written in I reckon 1800 some years. its an old novel. book or fiction whatever you prefer to call it. the writer is from French army and was a major. the book is about an Algerian man who's a playboy. literally. the opening scene is something like, the main character is a young boy and is hiding behind some bushes while some girls/women are washing their clothes and all that. he is looking at them and dreaming of all he can. some girls/women know he is there and they say bad things and some young girls are hoping that he is looking at them. he's a bit of voyeur at this age.
His father is the chief or some head of his people. the main character is a spoiled young man. chasing girls and all that. he falls in love with his step mother. it's just one of the twists of the book. she is gorgeous and all that. he is now a young grown man and desire her very much. to make it short and not bore you well read people, he, I reckon kisses her or something like that and she asks him to leave and he leaves and never comes back. he left and fought the war and all that. becomes a hero and blah blah blah. he's walking in the street and comes up on to a conversation of a young couple lovers. she is shy and the guy is asking her to elope with him. he overheard it in the street and hires the boy to work for him and takes the girl and take her to somewhere where he does what he does and then send her back to her parents. and the boy who's love suddenly disappeared is sad and something like that. so the main character is playboy and good at seducing girls/women. so now he wants to get married! the problem is because he has chased half the country he don't believe that his wife would be chaste or virgin. so for that purpose he buys a young girl off some poor people (of course she is very pretty) and takes her to the desert. hires a women who will tend to their needs and do the work. a maid perhaps. now that he is rich and can afford he starts to live there in the desert. the girl have never seen any other male or even heard any one else. so she don't know any better. and when is of age he wants to get married to a virgin. something of a high status that he knows for sure that she is a virgin. anyway, he tells her that and she is gobsmacked. and tells him that she will if he wants to but she been thinking that he was her father. funny in'nit. he explains her that its a different kind of love and all that. so they start to go to the city where he has invited whole of the city to his marriage. gotten a big house in the city and everybody is invited to the wedding. when they are going there is another caravan of merchants and in it is a young man who said who is that man and that lovely girl? he is told that he is the famous so and so and that's his bride. and while we are in the city we all go to his wedding. big party! there this young girl catches the eye of that young man and she starts to get some feeling for him.
That much I read because I remember it was about 3ish in the morning and my eyes were hurting so I went to sleep. mistake, I did not bookmarked it. or downloaded it either. the whole book/novel is in two chapters. I was on the second chapter. now, its been years and I want to read it. I've tried every possible combination on archive to get it but no use. its been years so I cant remember the name of the character. its a true story or something. not sure about that to be honest. but wicked book I must say. I've searched old French literature and found nothing. the setting is Algerian so its French for sure. and I do remember it well. I've emailed the French national library as well, this summer. and they haven't replied with the name of the book or the writer of it. its a wicked love story and a story of a man who's now afraid of what he's been doing all his life. no nudity as far as I know. so if you know the book then kindly let me know.
