The Land that Never Sleeps
How do we love
with the stillness of the night
in this land without echoes
where the sand ever blows,
so far away
so far
and never is the thirst of the earth
quenched,
while the sun glares angry red
with blood that never ceases
to flow
and rivers the color of rust.
Can love be found here
among the walking dead
and the reeking corpses
in this stifling air
dry dusty wind
so far away
so far
and no one can hear the tears
or see the screams
with only these visions
to sing you to sleep.
Among the ruins
of broken lives
where nothing green grows
and mothers wander on bleeding feet
tearing their clothes
beating their chest
while widows wait to die
can you still see my face
where the sky never ends
cerulean blue
so far away
so far
will the love in your heart
still survive?
How do we love
with the stillness of the night
in this land without echoes
where the sand ever blows,
so far away
so far
and never is the thirst of the earth
quenched,
while the sun glares angry red
with blood that never ceases
to flow
and rivers the color of rust.
Can love be found here
among the walking dead
and the reeking corpses
in this stifling air
dry dusty wind
so far away
so far
and no one can hear the tears
or see the screams
with only these visions
to sing you to sleep.
Among the ruins
of broken lives
where nothing green grows
and mothers wander on bleeding feet
tearing their clothes
beating their chest
while widows wait to die
can you still see my face
where the sky never ends
cerulean blue
so far away
so far
will the love in your heart
still survive?
