Please explain "strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends."

I can't understand the famous quote from Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew"

"And do as adversaries do in law, strive mightily, but eat and drink as friends."

Please elaborate on it.

It means be competitive in business (or endeavor) but treat those people you compete with as friends outside of business. Like two oposing lawyers going for drinks after a case is concluded.
