Does anyone here have a definite source for the above?
I find it attributed to Ben Jonson on several quotes sites
and to John Fletcher on several others.
It evidently is part of Fletcher's play "Rollo, Duke of Normandy"
but there is also evidence that Jonson as well as others
contributed to that work (and I have found one quote
that Fletcher obviously paraphrased from Francis Bacon elswhere).
