Autobiogaphy of Mark Twain? Held in abeyance until 100 years after his death, the first of three volumes of Twain's Autobiography was published last month. Parts of this monumental work have been published in bits and pieces before, but they were excerpts by scholars and biographers. Now the first volume is ready. Being a great fan of Twain, I plan to read all three volumes as published. Also, since Twain dictated his work, I plan to listen to the CDs of Volume I - III. Volume I will contain 20 CDs, but it's too bad technology wasn't advanced enough in 1910 so we could hear the irascible Twain reading his own life story. Twain is arguably America's greatest writer so I'm looking forward to hearing his views on slavery, American imperialism, and a diatribe on Teddy Roosevelt.

I would like to give this a go, but with my TBR piles threatening to overtake me, I probably won't get around to it for some time. It does interest me though.

For those who are interested, this is a link from NPR about the recent work:

I agree that Twain is prolific. Before reading the biography, I want to read some short stories.

I'm interested as well, but have a long to-read list... It'll be good to hear your opinions, though.

It's on my Amazon wish list in anticipation of the upcoming holiday!

Recovering this thread from a while ago. The holidays have come and I was wondering if anyone has started or finished reading it. I got it for my dad for christmas, but I plan to "borrow" it once he's read it.
Any thoughts on the work?

Twain is one of my favorite writers and I'll certainly read this but not in near future. Would love to hear your opinions about it.

I'd read it as long as it's completely unedited.
