Damn you poem for being here
and then running away.
Last night with a few drinks
and great music
surrounded by friends in love
you were here
right
f---ing
here
I could have written a million lines,
as you flooded my brain.
But today you are work
and I am wrestling with you
and I can't figure you out.
My schoolgirl crush
whispering to me in the dark,
but pretending you don't know me
the very next day.
I play music to recreate you.
I act coy and walk away.
I yell at you
to get your attention.
I pretend you don't matter,
but still you will not come.
Why did you want me so badly
and now I am nothing to you?
Lonely goddamn love.

God, how I know the feeling! the poem that got away in the cold light of day! The ironic humour behind the frustration works well (and probably would even without the deleted expletive) :D

"I could have written a million lines,

But today you are work
and I am wrestling with you"

how true this rings...

Live and be well, H

Thanks Hawk...

LOL! It's only deleted because of site rules

I know some people have issues with profanity. I see it as an art form. :D

I am SO frustrated. I had a great poem going and I am stuck, stuck, stuck STUCK!

And yet, my dear, the thing that is almost too terrible to contemplate is What if the lost poem wasn't anywhere near as strong as this one?

Agree with you re the profanities. How about getting up a petition to Admin requesting a new Forum that would be restricted to profanities?

Aww...thanks! :)

But are we talking about my propensity for profanity?? Or my poem in which I am stuck, stuck, stuck!?

MEh the poem that isn't will be whatever it is. Every now and then I write a real poem. Such is being a poet in the midst of six kids.

And--I have to say the all profanity forum...well it would rule. For awhile some friends and I had an anonymous rant blog going. It was fun, fun, fun. But I started to feel like I was looking for stuff to be annoyed about, so quit.

Perhaps the poem that got away was a masterpiece.... but at least it did not die in vain.

I really enjoyed this, and like Hawk know the feeling only too well. Those subtly-crafted phrases that no one ever had the courage to use before, and that brilliantly original metaphor.... all lost for the sake of a pencil and a scrap of paper (and misguided good manners in company).

Why, the poem of course :D perhaps it will be possible to find the path through the mire with another set of eyes...

I was informed yesterday that it is, apparently, against the "rules" (poetry writing rules, not site rules) to write a poem about not writing a poem. LOLOLOLOL!! I'm such a rebel.

If that's the case you're in good company as I have written two, "The Scribe's Curse" and "The Witch of the Blank Page". Both were fun to write, I might add :D
