View Full Version : Snow Day

Watching the blizzard
as it blows outside my window
the controlling wind
tossing the lifeless necessities
staining my window
with their remains
i watch them with warm breath
as it becomes harder to see them

slowly it engulfs
the stoic evergreen
standing defiant, yet overwhelmed
as the assault begins
a lonely trail is quickly buried
the memory forgotten
as the bodies fill their graves

the ferocity returns
the wind pushes harder
there is no retreat

all the while,
the young ones play on the hills
with rosy cheeks, and runny noses
soaking mittens and drenching toques

Some of us on here seem to have been given the same inspiration during the last day or so.

I liked this simple poem of an observer, safe indoors and watching the blizzard engulf the scene outside. It starts off rather menacingly

particularly with the lines

the memory forgotten
as the bodies fill their graves

but then a note of delight and playfulness changes the perspective towards the end.

My only suggestion would be to remove 'my window' from the end of line 2 (as it is unnecessary, and is repeated in line 5 where it is essential).

Otherwise, a fine poem.
