I believe the novel 1984 is a good warning to many people in "the future". I think that the book proves that government, or whomever is in power has complete control over you no matter what. They can control what you do, what you think, what you say and how you act. O'Brien could control what Winston said and what he thought (2+2=5). Also, the Party could make you confess something you were innocent of. Today it is true (in my opinion) that the goverment pretty much controls alot of your life. For example, in China the government gives them a limit on how many children they can have. The novel 1984 had some rough patches though. Orwell mentioned in his book the proles would have the most power in rebelling but then said it wouldn't work. I feel like I wouldn't even think about the lowest class of people in society in America taking over because they just don't have enough intelligence and don't have enough faith. Overall I feel like 1984 was an excellent book and I would reccomend reading it. It doesn't just give a good story to read, it gives examples of good foreshadowing for the future.
