It's 2006 in Los Angeles
And nobody dresses like James Dean anymore
The carousels of old detective films have been razed
And the plots of comic book reels fromt he 1930s are blankets
For the veterans sleeping out on skid row
Here's Dick Tracy
Here's Clark Klent
Here's Bruce Wayne
The New trinity
Suffering from thirty years of shell shock
And none of my students have ever heard of Ho Chi Minh
I walk through the jewelry district looking for the Biltmore Hotel
Where i've heard the ghost of Ronald Reagan floats above the pool
Deck and tries to convice the female lifeguard who's an extra in the
New Brad Pitt Film that he should have been cast in Casablanca
Think of what wyould have been different?
Casablanka makes him an A-lister, and suddenly he's starring in
The Maltese Falcon and The African Queeninstead of Glasnost and grenada
Maybe bogard goes on a goodwill tour of the middle east
Maybe lauren Bacall Tells margaret thatcher she could just
"put her lips together and blow"
There's a young man with white wings and seven earrings standing
In front of Union Station
There's a young woman with blue wings and seven tattoos selling
Blue Jeans out of a duffel bag
She's a "Professional hitchhiker" she tells me
She's been to denver
And kanasas City
And she wants to know why no one dresses like James Dean Anymore
She's eyes the Angel of Union Station
She's planning on splitting her score
She gives me a kiss on the cheek
And asks me again why no one dresses like James Dean anymore
*
doing a little extra credit but before i do i just need some help on the analysis of this. I am unsure of the Author and the poem title. *
